Green Tip #1: Go Organic

Our family has been doing more and more to give back to the earth ever since our son Lucious joined us. Going green is not only good for the planet but also great for your health! So I have decided to start posting some Green Tips to share with everybody :)

Green Tip # 1 : Go Organic!

In order to be organic among other things, the land where whatever it is is being raised on has to be pesticide free for three years. Conventional farms use pesticides that are harmful to the human body (before you even eat the crops because they can travel by air), they leach into the land and into our water sources.

The countries of European Union have banned some pesticides because of their toxicity.
If people have to wear full hazardous protective suits and gas masks to prepare for pesticide application, then why is it safe to put it on the food we eat?

When selecting meat products, make sure you are going for "organic pastured" cows, lamb, etc, that were not treated with hormones and antibiotics (If they are treated with chemicals, remember they also go straight into the earth at some point.) and are humanly treated. Organic pastured is important here, if it only says pastured, it may mean that the grass that they fed on contained pesticides.
When selecting poultry, go for the Free Range ones! Mary's Free Range Chicken/Duck/Turkey are good choices.

Choosing organic foods may be more expensive than buying conventionally grown ones, but isn't your family's health worth the extra buck or two? (and don't forget that organic foods are also more nutritious and tasty). At the end of the day, I think that's not a bad bargain at all.....
