Random Though #1 : Is It Love?

I've learned lots of things by being a mom. And one of them is that smoking will increase the chance of your baby dieing of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), by a lot.

I used to smoke, I don't anymore. Yet I keep seeing MOTHERS and fathers smoking around their new born babies and infants. I certainly hope that the moms are not breastfeeding their babies if they are smoking... (although breast milk is the best for babies, not when it's mixed with nicotine).

I know that when they were pregnant, their doctors must have told them all about smoking and SIDS, so..... why are they still doing it knowing it would harm their child(ren)? I'm very puzzled. If you made the decision to bring a life into this world, didn't you also make the decision to nurture and protect it?

Edit: I just found out that it is recommended for smoking moms to breastfeed their child(ren) because the benefits out weight the risks.
